Self-Reflection
I have reflected more throughout the minor than I have in my entire life. And it's a good thing. I've learned so much about my strengths, weaknesses, values, ethics, leadership style, personal traits, etc. through reflecting.
I have realized the value in self-reflection and started keeping a journal everyday since the beginning of my trip abroad. I thought I would get tired doing it and stop once I'm back in the states, but now I don't plan on it. It's so important to reflect about your thoughts and reflections so that you can learn and grow from your experiences. This minor made me realize that importance. |
Team Decision Making
In FTM 484 we played a game in Vaclav's class called FactOrEasy where we worked in teams and ran a simulated business and we were competing against the other groups. It was a pretty challenging game and required a lot of decision making and communication. After the game was over and we reflected on it, I realized our communication to be very good. We listened to what each other had to say and their ideas of how to win, then we discussed the options, and made most of the decisions together, as a team.
When working in a team in my future career, I'll express the importance of healthy communication to promote team decision making. Everyone has different ideas and perspectives that may help reach the best decision. |
Term Paper for FTM 484
A paper that was assigned in FTM 484 discussed the differences between Czech and American cultures and how that affects each business style. In my analysis between the two, I noticed that "Czechs tend to keep their comments and "small-talk" to themselves, while Americans do the opposite." When Americans try and engage in small talk with Czech people, they may make them feel uncomfortable, hindering the potential relationship that could occur.
Culture plays such a big part in society and affects how different people interact with each other. By writing this paper, it helped me understand how beneficial it is to understand the culture and values of the people you interact with. Taking this concept and applying it to my future, my goal is to understand the differences in my culture and someone else's when working together. I will take note of other coworkers cultures and do my best to adapt so as to not hinder relationships with them. |
